“This alliance is especially exciting for us.” With these words, the Project Coordinator of CERCA Energía, José Ángel Zabalegui, expressed his satisfaction when announcing that the Renewable Energy Community of the Community of Calatayud district (CERCA Energía) has joined Calatayud Empresa as a member, the leading business association in this Aragonese region. “The business fabric and its strength are key to combating the depopulation of a territory,” Zabalegui emphasized.
Both entities share the same DNA: a commitment to the local productive fabric, networking, and the creation of opportunities that help retain population and generate wealth in rural areas. This partnership strengthens collaboration between two organizations that, from complementary fields—energy transition and business development—pursue a common goal: to make the Community of Calatayud district a more sustainable, competitive, and livable territory.
“This is where we come together around a shared objective, working jointly on ideas that generate opportunities for everyone,” explained the Project Coordinator of CERCA Energía.
With this incorporation, CERCA Energía brings its experience in community renewable energy projects and its citizen participation model to the Calatayud Empresa ecosystem, which brings together more than one hundred companies and self-employed professionals from the district.
“Their working model fits perfectly with our vision of a business community committed to the territory,” highlighted the board of directors of Calatayud Empresa, who added that “their cooperative model, based on collaboration between companies, town councils, and citizens, demonstrates that sustainability and economic development can move forward hand in hand in our district.”
Jointly, efforts will focus on promoting initiatives that combine energy sustainability and the creation of local employment; facilitating access for associated companies and municipalities to more affordable and environmentally friendly energy solutions; and, above all, generating new economic opportunities that help curb depopulation and improve the quality of life in our towns.
It should not be forgotten that the future of the Community of Calatayud district depends on collaboration, innovation, and strong local roots.
